The Buddhist Faith And Folk Life Research In The Ancient Town Of Shanxi Province

The north of Shanxi Province as the first area contact with Buddhism of Han national, to accept different national religion, this area has unique natural geographical conditions and a loose humanistic environment, including the specific groups——the folks in ancient town, and formed the interaction of the local faith and the Buddhist faith. This paper studies the relationships between Buddhist belief and the folk life in the town of Shanxi Province, select the representative village around the holy land Wutai Mountain in Xinzhou and YunGang Grottoes in Datong as objects, aims to analysis the relationship of the Buddhist faith and public life in village by field research, and then explore the development and the existing situation of Buddhism in north Shanxi Province, and analyzes the Buddhist faith on the rural harmonious development role and significance.The article is divided into six parts which is the introduction, the text four chapters and epilogue parts, the first part of this topic research background, purpose and meaning, source and research methods were reviewed in this paper; the first chapter describes the ecological environment in north Shanxi Province, and the situation of the Buddhism, especially make a explain for why I choose these points; chapter2discusses the popularity of Buddhist culture in north Shanxi Province and the "localization" process, Buddhist culture popularity including the distribution of temple and grottoes and the effect of Buddhist architecture to the neighboring village, and then discusses the role of Buddhism legend, and analysis the "localization" process by make a survey of neighboring village of Dongye town; chapter3study a typical case——Guanyin temple fair, discusses the Buddhist faith and the relationship between the folk society, namely the Buddhist faith "folkloric" process, which reflects the survival and development of Buddhism in different time and space; chapter4analyzes the folk’s religious situation around Wutai mountain, and discuss the "folkloric" by making a survey of the typical characters and events; Epilogue part summarizes the ancient villages in the social transition period in the new rural construction and the Buddhist faith relationship.This article through the access to absorb a large number of literature and detailed fieldwork, through the necessary participate in performance, questionnaire survey, the use of the ceremony theory, theory of quantitative analysis method, investigated the status of the Buddhist belief in Shanxi Province, the ancient town this particular area specific group belief in Buddhism, ways and Buddhism has motivation active in their life in the cause, and explore the Buddhist faith and the public life of Shanxi Province town of the relationship.
