Xu Zi (1810-1862), is the writer of Xiaotian Magazine, he didn’t complete it during his lifetime. In the ruling period of Tong Zhi,the remained parts are complemented by his son Xu Chengli. The manuscripts handed down by Xu are65volume in all, including7volume of Chronicles and58volume of Biographies. Besides, there are5volume of Amendment. In the later period of Qing Dynasty, Xiaotian Magazine finally came out. On the reference of different books about South Ming history, Xu Zi exhausted his life to complete Xiaotian Magazine. Since the arrangement and the presentation of the book is proper and strict, this book is of high value in studying South Ming historyThe present thesis chooses Xiaotian Magazine (1958) published by China Press as reference. Compared with other books recording South Ming history (mainly the works of late Ming and early Qing in order to get the historical facts) and Xu Zi’s Chronological Attachment of South Ming Dynasty, the present thesis aims to discover the misused wording and confused historical facts. Through the contradistinction, the thesis makes some correction against the inaccurate parts. This paper altogether divides into three parts:First, biography of Xu Zi, main work as well as historiography thought and compilation style; Second, this discipline proofreading; Third, partial biography proofreading.
