Changchun TCL Electrical Appliances Sales Company, Ltd. is a selling company under TCL Group; its sales amount of 2004 has achieved 300 million RMB. With the fast development of the business, the customer, consumers'data, range of products and information related to sales increase day by day. Enterprise administrators are unable to find out the useful information that they rely on to analyze the decision quickly in a large number of scattered historical operation data. The simple way of relying on manual work to find out materials and analyze decision of information are already far from meeting demands of enterprise's development. Its deficiencies are as follows: 1. The existing business transaction-processing mode does not enable the enterprise decision maker to find out useful information from the detailed data of different data structure directly, making it difficult for the enterprise decision maker to make rational judgments based on a huge number of data, so they mainly rely on experience. Then comes the necessity to have normative and unified data. 2. Enterprise's existing business data is unable to offer decision maker historical integrated information which is convenient for trend analysis and related to decision making, making the decision maker feel difficult to grasp the customer's true repayment situation accurately. In order to reduce the possibility that the bad payment for goods appears, trade modes have to be limited, making enterprises lose a lot of trade opportunities. 3. Sales profit of enterprises decrease gradually, so it is required that market input should be reasonable and of pertinence. For example, making analysis on the existing customers and then making market input focusing on them, by which more rewards can be generated through limited resources. However the original system cannot classify customers effectively, decision makers can only make market input roughly relying on sense. Then, it is becoming an urgent problem calling for more attention and need to be resolved imminently that how to abstract valuable information quickly from those ocean-wide original and newly added businesses data, which is to powerfully support the senior managers of the enterprises to forecast the market, see through the clients and to provide exact and reasonable decision. Decision making support, which is based on Data Warehouse (DW) and On-Line Analytical Processing(OLAP) technology,is the best choice to resolve this problem, because of the advantages of DW and OLAP as follows: 1.Data Warehouse provides Decision Support System with an analytical and problem-resolving environment, which enable users analyze and dispose data stably and interactively in many dimensions, providing a platform on which different departments could utilize the common data resource. 2.Data Warehouse solves the problem of data integration especially of dynamic integration. Data in DW is integrateddata, which does not involve in the problems of data scattering, 'spider net', data nonconformity, etc, therefore it does not waste large amount of time to integrate these data and satisfies the demand of integrating data of DDS. Data in DW, which are changing by time, integrate dynamically by periodically refurbishing them. Therefore, the problem emerged under static integration form that when data source changed after integration, it could reflect to decision makers in time. 3.Data Warehouse provides decision makers with historical data. While the data in database are always short term, the decision makers could not master the developing trend of an enterprise. DW saves data of a longer historical period, and also analyzes the data so that the decision makers could analyze those historic data in longer time. This has relative strong function in assassinating decision when analyze customers' reliability. 4. DW Solved the problem of data comprehension. DSS does not need to be concerned with the massive details data in the affairs processing system, because in the data warehouse granularity division solves this problem. 5.On the other hand discover the rule existed in statistics and realize the conclusion, analysis and processing of the data so that the concerned decision can organize completely. In view of the decision-making demand of Changchun TCL Electrical Appliances Sales Company, Ltd. the author, as one of the system designers, designed and realized the Decision Support System (DSS) for Changchun TCL Electrical Appliances Sales Company, Ltd.. This program is designed and realized on the base of the original service data analyzes. The author uses the technology of Data Warehouse (DW) and On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP). This system quoted the popular data warehouse concept of large enterprise, which has extremely complete enterprise database construction and abundant development fund. Combined the characteristic of incomplete enterprise database in the Changchun TCL Electrical Appliances Sales Company, Ltd., this system abandoned the old development data warehouse method which is developed through purchasing data warehouse product and then integrated with the enterprise own characteristic. After simple computation and synthesis, the original operation system data became the system bases source. Under the situation of giving up expensive development instrument, the system established a star-shape mode, which has the analyses object of dimension form and has the behavior attribution of sales condition though SQL Server 2000. The dimension form can adapt time variation without destroying base completeness. The author realized a decision support program that can support fund and personnel distribution, sales direction, customer choice and other decision-making to the Changchun TCL Electrical Appliances Sales Company, Ltd. The design work mainly includes:1) Completed the system analysis and design, elaborated the system overall solution and the system framework, and emphasis on the design process of data warehouse model analyses. 2) Physically realized the data warehouse using the DTS tool of SQL Server 2,000. Realized on-line analysis processing using the multi-dimensional expression SQL Server 2,000 Analysis Services as the tool. This article has chosen the customer most familiar EXCEL as the visit terminal to realize the customer terminal visit. This system has brought considerable benefit to Changchun TCL Electrical A ppliances S ales Company, Ltd. in its trial-function phase, and has provided potent support to the decision maker. In the later half of year 2004, domestic chain enterprises developed rapidly, under the pressure of customer competition, enterprises should focus its limited resources on the key customers. Using this system to provide decision for capital distribution and so on, the decision maker of Changchun TCL Electrical Appliances Sales Company, Ltd. was enabled to speed up capital flow and stable sales volume under the situation of total market input unchanged. Using this system, enterprise decision maker no longer need to seek detail data in various report forms, and they are enabled to develop much larger market with more time and energy. Various departments no longer need to provide series of report forms to decision maker, by which their workload is deducted. This has provided powerful guarantee for the expansion of business range on the basis of unchanged stuff number. However, Decision Support System of Changchun TCL Electrical Appliances Sales Company, Ltd. is only a bold experiment on developing business intelligence in retailing enterprise, and it is not perfect yet till now. After the first project period of the system, and through verification of real use, it is proved that it has achieved the anticipated goal of designing and realizing the predicted function. But there are also some disadvantages founded in real use listed below, which need to be improved. 1) The launder technique of data is simple, and unable to realize data launder totally. 2) The design of metadata is not perfect enough. 3) On-Line Analytical Processing management is not perfect enough.We will perfect this system continuously in future work. We will increase analyses subject and data-rootling arithmetic, realize analysis of potential customers, and realize analysis and investigation of competitors, etc, to make this system a real intelligentized decision support system. In this way, we can help small enterprise improve decisions efficiently on staff flow, logistics, capital flow, information flow, and so on, to increase their corporate competency, and enable them develop faster and achieve a splendid success in international trade.
