X microprocessor is a 64-bit high performance general purpose microprocessor with fully independent intellectual property.It is large scale integrated and extraordinary complexity. Multi-level function verifications are applied to the different phases of chip design so as to ensure the validity and compatibility of chip function.During our research, we analyzed and implemented the Software-Hardware Codesign method. Firstly, this paper introduced the knowledge related to simulation verification of microprocessor chip design and discussed the method of software-hardware codesign. Secondly, we recommended our research in system software for simulating verification. Further more, we discussed the operation system and IA-64 hardware platform which are related to our project.In this paper, we considered the requirements of this project and the characteristics of microprocessor design:1. Due to the difficulties in the whole chip verification of high performance microprocessor, a general purpose verification platform using hardware accelerator has been developed. This platform makes up of Palladium accelerator, workstation and terminals. It has been applied to the actual verification project of the chip.2. A new technique for log recording and exporting is proposed. It is proved to helpful to the verification platform and has a good performance.3. After deeply analyzing the 64-bit microprcessor architecture based on IA-64 architecture and the kernel of linux opertion system, we migrated the LINUX operation system to the test platform based on hardware accelerator, and implemented loading and booting LINUX Kernel with COM port. This technology has been applied to the verification and testing of the X microprocessor.The research in this paper has significant value of reference in the effective simulating verification of high performance microprocessor.
