Plastic fiber, as the ideal transmission medium in the short-distance communication netweb, plays an important role in the areas of fiber joining indoor, engineering-controlling netwebed, communication net used in the vertical-carrying and airplane-carrying, military affair communication net and the data transmission in multimedia facility, and it will be applied more broadly. As the development of plastic fiber, the plastic fiber connector has caused every company's attention all over the world, and it has already played an active part in the aspects of promoting plastic fiber joining indoor and automobile application.The fiber end of the upside-down tapered lens (UDTL) and the plastic fiber connector based on the replanting fiber end are theoretically analyzed and researched by an experiment in this paper. Firstly, the manufacture method of UDTL fiber end is introduced, where the heat moulding technique, heat transferring mechanism and fabricate technics are introduced in detail. Meanwhile, the transimmision characteristic of this fiber end, collecting light characteristic of Lambertian source, coupling characteristic with LD source and light field distribution characteristic of the fiber end are analyzed, seperatly, and then some kinds of typical application of the UDTL fiber end are given. Secondly, the plastic fiber connector bassed on the UDTL fiber end is researched deeply, the structure design of this conner and adapter is given, and the injection mold which is used tomaking this connector groupwares is introduced briefly. Thirdly, some optical performances, such as source coupling efficiency, connecting loss, interchangability and repeatability of this kind of plastic fiber connector are tested strictly by the experiment.The source coupling efficiency is 75.7%, centralizing in 5.4dB~6.0dB; the connecting loss is 70.5%, centralizing in 2.1dB~2.7dB, and the interchangability and repeatability are good, which meet the requirement of the fiber joining indoor on the connector's optical performances. Finally, some application fields of this fiber connector are introduced in this paper.
