After 40 years of rapid development,in network communication technology all kinds of communication media is attracting attention by researchers.In recent year,the potential market and application of plastic optical fiber(POF) has attracted extensive attention of researchers.Compared with quartz fiber,it has such as lightweight,soft,more resistant to damage(vibration and bending) and docking easily,low cost characteristics which make it become better technical solutions in all optical network,especially in "the last one kilometer" of high-speed broadband communications.In the future,Data transmission of intelligent household, office automation, industrial control network, vehicle mounted airborne and other small LAN,plastic optical fiber will have much more important position.The advantages that Plastic optical fiber(POF) has shown,make it replaced copper and quartz fiber and other traditional media in the short distance communication gradually,but the present POF network mostly uses 650 nm single wave,this communication mode limits the bandwidth of communication network.In order to break through the POF transmission bandwidth restrictions,we consider using wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) technology as a solution.This paper firstly introduces advantages of the plastic optical fiber(POF) scene and application of the POF in optical fiber communication; this paper briefly expounds on the design of optical fiber communication system and the need to pay attention to the design in question. Mainly introduces the core device of optical transmitter-optical source(LED) and wavelength division multiplexing of the important devices-rectangular grating. POF optical fiber communication system in this research is the optical fiberwavelength division multiplexing/demultiplexing device which uses plastic phase grating as a component of function, according to the principle of the system to do an in-depth study, emphatically introduces the working principle andcharacteristic parameters of each part of the system, after the study selected a design scheme of POF/UTP converter, and the selected reference manufacturers design the related devices. Finally, according to the design requirements to explain the direction of design,detailed description of the design of the optical transmitter, including a light source driving circuit, signal modulation and optical fiber connector; in circuit simulation software under the multisim system, the transmitter for the red light emitting diodes, different frequency squarewave signal were used as the signal source, the observation of modulated optical signalwaveform, and carries on the analysis. The significance of this paper is to discuss the design of optical transmitter, so as to deepen the awareness and understanding of the short distance POF communication system.
