IPTV is a new kind of business model on Internet, as well as a more flexible developing method for public media. Being considered long-termly by many people, IPTV will become the main method of TV watching for most people replace the common TV set we use nowadays. The text put forward the solution building a client system of IPTV based on Sigma EM8551 chip, this system is a useful try of developing IPTV, and it can meet almost all requirement of domestic users. In this paper, we construct a IPTV client system with total ability of completely control and GUI. The soft system is based on a kind of real time operating system named "uclinux", and the designed protocol stack for the system is totally accordance with standard ISMA 1.1. To ensure the high efficiently and regularly run of the system, we optimize the kernel part and those parts which executive many times in realization of ISMA protocol stack. At graphic layer, the UI system adopted by the client system is based on MiniGUI. This system supports many kinds of audio form and video form. After analyzing the general situation of developing of IPTV nowadays, the text briefly introduce the EM8551 chip designed by Sigma Design Corporation as hardware base of the system and the uclinux as the software base of the system. Then after giving the analysis of related protocol and standard, the text put forward the solution building a client system of IPTV. At last, the text summarizes the client system of IPTV, explains and expects the next work about the client system of IPTV.
