Sensor networks will be applied in many different areas in the future. They have become a very active area of research. Many experimental sensor networks are opening up new vistas for scientists and engineers. The notion that small, smart, and cheap sensing and computing devices will eventually permeate the environment. They present a range of computer systems challenges because they are closely coupled to the physical world with all its unpredictable variation, noise, and asynchrony.Node localization has been a topic of active research in recent years. Localization is an essential tool for the development of low-cost sensor networks for use in location-aware applications and ubiquitous networking. This paper introduces the development of wireless sensor networks and the current technology about its localization. Also we describe a distributed algorithm for localizing sensor network nodes. We introduce the probabilistic notion of robust quadrilaterals as a way to solve this problem. We formulate the localization problem as a two-dimensional graph realization problem without any beacons. This formulation is applicable to the localization of sensor networks in which each node can estimate the distance to each of its neighbors.
