This dissertation is mainly concerned with several key issues for virtual enterprise application integration, which include partner enterprise selection and net-based quote system for virtual enterprise, CAD and PDM system integration architecture based on web service, virtual enterprise integration framework based on the enabling tool such as web service, STEP and XML, virtual enterprise integrated design and manufacturing system prototype for stamping product. Six chapters are included in this dissertation. The background and fundamental concepts of virtual enterprise application integration were addressed firstly in Chapter 1. A state-of-the-art review of existing research, projects and applications in the domain of virtual enterprise application integration is presented. The background of project and the main contents of the dissertation are summarized after some problems needing to be solved and future trends are described.Partner enterprise selection and net-based quote system for virtual enterprise is proposed in Chapter 2. Four key modules of the system are analyzed in detail. And the inner architecture and the information flow are also illustrated. On the other hand with the help of UML, the system's use case model, class model and sequence model are presented for the system implementors.CAD system and PDM system integration based on web service is studied in chapter 3. With the analysis of the necessity and possibility for accessing STEP file by means of Web Service, indirect STEP and XML Schema mapping is constructed for the purpose of STEP data serialization by way of UML. An open architecture of PDM Web Service is presented based on the STEP and Web Service methods. The internal framework and function module of the architecture is illustrated in detail. The EXPRESS-G product model is proposed and the corresponding UML models are also given. Finally the application example of the prototype is illustrated for further argumentation. In chapter 4, the general virtual enterprise integration framework based on web service, STEP and XML is illustrated. And the integration framework such as heterogeneous CAx/PDM systems, heterogeneous ERP/PDM systems and heterogeneous PDM systems are discussed in detail. The operation process based on the integration framework is also proposed. We also illustrated the future integrated framework of virtual enterprise.Virtual enterprise integrated design and manufacturing system prototype for stamping product is proposed in chapter 5. The system operation flow is illustrated and discussed in detail. Some real enterprise operation examples are illustrated at some key stage of virtual enterprise for further argumentation of our thoughts and studies.Systematical summary is given, and some problems under to study in future are put forward in chapter 6.
