By facilitating the innovation of Internet framework as a whole, and quickening the pace of economic development, streaming media, the will-be mainstream of Internet, is displaying its potential dominance in Internet media communication. Provided a favorable campus network circumstances, the advanced streaming media may function as a practical platform for network teaching, video on-demand, video conference, network living broadcast and network monitor.The thesis begins with an introduction to the related knowledge of streaming media, including its definitions, origins, advancement, technological characteristic, streaming transport theory along with its network protocol and transmission flow.On the basis of analyzing practical demand of streaming media in campus, construct the complete planning of streaming media service system and design its subsystem functions The whole system is composed of streaming media, multicast network, IPTV, VOD, network living broadcast and network monitor system.In this thesis, we explore a number of key challenges associated with delivering streaming media from a server to client across a heterogeneous network such as the Internet, and develop effective solutions to these problems. Streaming media server is the core of the system, so the thesis is finished with the aid of high-powered server and disk array hardware system and system service program of Window Media Service 9, composing a technology advancement and excellent performance streaming media server based on knowing its development conditions and key technology of domestic and foreign countries. The one of contributions of the this thesis is that it explains streaming media server operation setting based on a lot of tests on server performance and function by various means, and server security setting and operation setting, load balance scheme by using many streaming media servers on the large application scale.Multicast-enabled network provides necessary support to the streaming media technology In consideration of the practical network condition on campus, this paper firstly proposes a scheme for multicast network construction, and then suggests an ideal campus multicast network development on the basis of the latest PIM-SSM and IGMP V3 protocol, thus conceives an optimal network communication platform for the streaming media technologyBy means of CATV signal demodulator, video capture card and encoding software, we can make possible realization of great valuable IPTV. While enriching the service of campus network and fully utilizing network sources, IPTV is a positive attempt at combining traditional media with modern one.Video on-demand is the widest application of streaming media. By adopting thestreaming media server Asp.Net and MS SQL Server 2000 database technology in website design, we can improve the existing video on-demand technology, which boasts the advantages of high efficiency and reliability.By employing the streaming media technology, network living broadcast system converts the live vision into data media stream, and transmits the date through network, thus realizing the living broadcast online. By transmitting the signal of digital video through IEEE 1394 interface, the system can achieve better video encoding quality and better living broadcast with a lower cost.Network monitor system can digitalize the scenes and transmit it through network. In this way, monitor can be conducted at any network point. The system consists mainly of TOYA-27X high definition color integrative video camera and Gotron MP-404x multi-video capture card, which make possible simultaneous network monitor in four lines. The easy expansibility of the system effects its low cost and high efficiency.The streaming media service system proposed in this paper is characteristic of advanced technology, excellent performance, integrated functions, wide adaptability and low cost, which make the system highly practical and suit the campus well. It renders to the students and teaching staff a service platform based on streaming media technology, enlarges the areas of campus network information services, and gives a boost to the construction of digital campus.
