Large numbers of weapon systems involved in information warfare are so complex that it is difficult to model and simulate. And it is necessary to facilitate interoperability among these simulation systems and promote reuse of them and their components. High level architecture (HLA) is developed to meet that purpose. Radar, as one of the most important sensors in modern weapon systems, plays an important role in searching, tracking and recognition. In this thesis, the problems of radar system modeling and simulation based on HLA are discussed. The thesis consists of three sections. In the first section, basing on HLA, the performance simulation problems of radars in ballistic missile defense are discussed. Firstly, a ballistic missile countermine simulation system based on HLA is analysed. Then the model of radars in it is established. The simulation results can verify the performance of radars in the denfense system. In the second section, the coherent video signal simulation of radars is studied and the models of signal generating and processing are discussed. Since linear frequency modulated signal, phase coded pulse signal and coherent pulse train signal are broadly used in radar, the simulation models of them are discussed. And the models have been used in radar coherent video signal simulation systems. In the third section, the problem of radar modeling and simulation in complex systems is studied. With the analysis of performance simulation and coherent video signal simulation, a method is presented that the performance models can be induced by means of coherent video signal simulation, which can meet the precision and real-time performance required in complex system simulations. Based on the analysis of echo simulation and signal processing in phased-array radar system, the performance models of signal detection and parameter estimate are established. These models have been used in a missile early warning radar simulation system and it is concluded that the method presented in this thesis can greatly improve the real-time performance. In addition, the radar simulation models with noise jamming and deception jamming are also established.
