It was incogitable for people to know the gross amount of information in the world, which was up to a surprising quantity. At the same time the pace of information increasing was still quickening, so that people were almost submerged in the sea of information. Athough information technology offered a effective way to solve the problem of management and utilization of mass information, with the development in IT there appeared some heterogeneous problems, such as heterogeneous platform, heterogeneous data format ect. SORE developed by us was a protype system to solve the problem of heterogeneous data integration. Howerer, little work had been done at the metadata of heterogeneous data and the effective utilization of resource, which had a negative effect on system efficiency and capacity of integrating heterogeneous data.In the thesis through the research of data integration systems we got some illumination about metadata management and caching treating. Thus we designed the metadata service and the semantic caching in a client at the aspect of data storage to improve SORE. Metadata service implemented the MOF based metadata management and storage of heterogeneous data through the research of MOF criterion. On the research of semantic caching we presented the semantic cache model, the method of oganization and query treating of data cached and implemented the semantic caching of query results in a client.
