In 1815,two Christian Missionries Robert Morrison and William Milne issued a periodicals Chinese Monthly Magazine in Mallaca and opened the prelude of China's latter-day journalism.From then on.the Christian missionaries began to built churches,develop schools and issure periodicals in China,and in the result caused a movement of the western civilization introduce to China.The Chinese Periodicals of the missionaies and the movement of western civilization to China had great effect on china,and the effect embodied in the Chinese journalism'growing and the people's idea changing.But the Christian Missionaies came to China in late Qing were convoyed by the western gun powder and they boasted they can save China. In such situation,because of the mentality imbalance between the disseminator and the receiver,the effect of the communicating would be weaken. And because the communication went with the process of imperialism's invasion to China,these periodicals' end and effect would inevitably be oppugned and condemned and disputed.During the history of China and Western's culture dialogue,the controversy about "communion or invasion" last and never stopped.In the 21 century, the new missionaries of capitalism—western mediae came to China with their abundant capital to gain profit in the potential big market.What effect they will brought to China? China can finally dialogue with Western at theequal position? And how can China keep her ethos and culture? These questions are all Chinese people especially journalism people have to consider and discuss.The thesis focuses on the Chinese periodicals of the early Christian missionaries,and analyze their reason,content,end,way and effect,try to probe into the delicate and complicated relationship of "the culture communion and invasion",clarify the significance of equal dialogue between different culture,in order to help today's Chinese journalism to face the challenge and competition of Western journalism bravely,learn lesson and experience from history and grasp the opportunity to expand itself.The foreword of the thesis mainly discuss the research reason,research status quo of this theme and the research purpose of the thesis.Chapter One retrospects the several experiences of the Christian came to China,indicate that it is the religion's nature of expansion itself that encourage it came to China at great risks.Introduces the role of the Christian in the western culture,and the different reaction of the Chinese people to the Christian preached in China.Chapter Two has a full analyse about the Chinese periodicals of the Christian missionaries,include their reason , content, way,and the process of their end change from "mainly preach the gospel"to"communicate more science,economy,politics and so on".The object which I research focus on several influential periodicals from Chinese Monthly Magazine^ 1815) to A Revives Of The Times (1874). *Chapter Three discusses the effects of the Chinese periodicals of Christian missionaries to China, and the main behaving is the deep impact on the Chinese journalism and the Chinese people.Then analyze the controversial question about what on earth the Christian periodical means to China:it is a kind of culture communion? Or just a kind of culture invasion ?Chapter Four compares the same and different facet of today's western mediae and the early Christian missionaries,which both came to China.Additionally,the thesis puts forward the suggestion and wishes to today'sChinese journalism to face the challenge of international meadiae bravely.
