This paper introduces the theory and the operation during handover of the protocol MIPv6. During the Mobile host handovers to another network, the correspondence will be interrupted and the QoS will descend. So the technology of handover is very important to MIPv6. this paper discusses and analyses the technology of Fast Handover, Smooth Handover and Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6). Compared to IETF MIPv6 and HMIPv6, this paper proposed a new handover management model for mobile IPv6 node, Dynamic Handover Management MIPv6 (DHM-MIPv6).The model DHM-MIPv6 inherits the basic function entities, using the non-fixative managing domain of the MAP, the logical managing domain for the single mobile node, and the dynamic time and arithmetic of changing MAP, to reduce the frequency of handover happening, hold the continuity of the correspondence when handovers occur, make the load of MAP balance. Analysed the performances of the three handover management model, MIPv6, HMIPv6 and DHM-MIPv6, it indicates that DHM-MIPv6 has more merits and better performance and less affection to the correspondence than MIPv6 and HMIPv6. The experiment with Network Simulator 2 proves that during handovers occur, DHM-MIPv6 improves the performances in delay and lose rate of the packet, and has more feasibility than MIPv6 and HMIPv6. Finally, DHM-MIPv6 integrated Fast Handover technololy, imported the layer 2 trigger informations, makes the handover management model better, improving the mobile node's performances when handovers occur.
