The purpose of the Mobile Communication Network Management System is to monitor the network operating status, manage and control mobile elements, equipments, and network. The system consists of 5 layers including the data collection layer, the data processing layer, the kernel service layer, the application service layer and the application presentation layer. By the function, the system can be divided into Fault Management, Performance Management, configuration Management, etc.The thesis proposes an overall architecure of the fault management sub-system and studies the design and the implementation of the alarm collection module and alarm handling module, which are essential basic for the fault diagnosis sub-system. The function of Fault Diagnosis is to discover the real fault cause from the alarm data.The thesis describes the principle for the fault Diagnosis and technical schemes for design and implementation of the fault diagnosis expert module of the Mobile Communication Network Management System, which consists of working momory, knowledge base and interference engine. The working memory maintains the alarm data collected from net site. The knowledge base keeps the rules used in the interference. As the most important part of the expert system, the engine's function is to select the reliable rules from knowledge base and discover the correct fault cause from the alarm data, then present the result to the users. This thesis successfully applies the Rete's networking and interference technologies to the functional realization of the Fault Diagnosis module. Based on the knowledge used by expert in Fault Diagnosis, the association relationship between alarm data is analyzed and summarized, then all the association relationship was constructed as rules and stored in the knowledge base. Such rules are compiled into pattern network. We performed pattern matching to alarm data using the network. In such way, the Fault Diagnosis Expert System module becomes an independent module in network management system.
