Chinese news media industry, especially the broadcasting industry, has developed considerably since China's opening to the outside world and reform 20years ago. However, the broadcasting industry has got some obvious problems yet. One of these major problems is that the industry itself nowaday could not provide enough space for deeper reform. Restrictions come mainly from its institutional organization but semi-corporation operation mode. Another major problem concerns to its encounter of the more and more severe competition from abroad, which resulting from Chinese participating in WTO. It is deemed that the operation mode, competition ability and efficiency of the news media industry of our country, in most degree, are all determined and restricted by the trend of industrialization of news media, as well as the future characteristic of our society and the globalization course. Government is therefore required to made proper adjustment when strategic decisions are to be made. How to enable a rapid progress in the system and operation mode of our broadcasting industry? Both government and academia are inclined to adopt collectivization as their first choice, and already put it into practice. The author hereafter discussed the development of Chinese broadcasting industry from the point of view of government regulation, and tried to provide some advices and suggestions through his analysis and compare of worldwide trend of reform in the government regulation of broadcasting industry.
