With the rapid development of Civil Aviation in China, the domestic air traffic control (ATC) systems are approaching the international advanced level in functional aspect, but there is still some disparity in non-functional aspects to some degree. As a result, many ATC display terminals are imported from overseas. However, the display terminals of the international advanced ATC systems have been developed with the technology of the early 1990's. Limited by the computer technology (for example: the object-oriented technology has not been developed perfectly at that time), the ATC display systems developed at that time are not good enough. The future ATC systems characterized by more complexity and more controllable capability require more advanced display technology as support.The new generation of display technology is the requirement of the future ATC system for Civil Aviation of China. At the same time, our goal of the development of science and technology is to develop the products which have the independent intellectual property, and the key technology of the products should be developed by ourselves also. At present, there's not the same operating system implemented by all ATC centers in our country. Each ATC center has its own operating system. To develop display terminals which can work in different operating system is therefore anticipated. Now we develop across-platform display terminals with high efficiency and improved reliability. In this project, object-oriented method is implemented and across-platform technology is employed which ensures the product can work in different operating systems, such as Windows, UNIX and Linux etc.Firstly, the thesis briefly introduces the air traffic control system, and summarizes the current situation and the existing problems about ATC display systems. Afterwards, the main subjects and research background are expounded.Secondly, the reason for choosing the platform and toolkit to develop the display terminal is introduced in detail, and the knowledge relevant to the platform and toolkit is also introduced. The design idea of the display terminal includes the design of the whole framework, software framework and data flow.
