The rapid development of multimedia and networking brings new chance to education. More and more people acquire higher education by computers or from internet. Many training institutions have set up network for distance education. In distance education, theory instruction is relatively mature, however, experiment instruction still encounters many difficulties. Students can only conduct experiments by watching demostrating; moreover, some experiments hava to be cacelld. Supported financially by China Central Radio and TV University and Institute of Net of China Agricultural University, founded on the previous research, I propose the scenario which accomplishes 3D web-based virtual experiment by VRML.This dissertation emphasizes on studying the web-based virtual experiment of foreign and domestic, studies Web3d used to construct 3D web-based virtual experiments. VRML is superior in the compositive characteristics such as interactive, extensive, cross-platform, modeling and third-party plug-in supported. I conclude that VRML is the key technology of the project. According to the software engineering of virtual reality, I work out the technical route for designing virtual experiment. This dissertation emphasize on the research of VRML geometric modeling including simple geometric modeling and complicated geometric modeling. The file of VRML format is exported by 3DS Max after complicated modeling. Both the simple and complicated interactions between users and VRML scene are discussed. The ways of communications between VRML and Java, VRML and HTML in order to realize complicated interaction and improve the logic controlling capacity of VRML were researched deeply.Taking the experiments of medical and nursing psychology and animal anatomy as an example, this paper studied the concrete character of the two courses and discussed the ways of implementing virtual experiment using VRML. I designed the key proto which extended the nodes of VRML. These proto included _hud_, _controlPaneI, timer, key and light_key etc. I proposed feasible ways to implement the emulation of instruments and the interaction between experimenter and experimental object. The two courses experiments were implemented, and achieve the goal of virtual experiment instruction.
