Automated Optical Inspection systems integrated performance of camera/lighting system design and vision algorithms to meet the quality control requirements. In Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production line, Automated Optical Inspection systems use charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras to acquire images of the circuit board, and the images are analyzed to determine whether there are any defects in each area of the board. Automated Optical Inspection systems can identify process problems resulting in missing and misplaced components. The use of Automated Optical Inspection systems is a very efficient way to supplement process control and improve quality levels. This paper takes researches on the Automatic Optic Inspection systems in SMT production line. The solution of Automated Optical Inspection to SMT production quality Inspection is introduced. To solve the problem of the image's position and angle offset, it employs the Rake edge detection and MSD line fit in relocating the coordinate system; The characteristics of image matching technology in Automated Optical Inspection systems are analyzed in detail. Briefly introduce the Pattern Matching principle of Lab VIEW, and a Virtual Instrument of component image inspection has been actualized according those characteristics. A report is also given of the result of searching a component in a PCB image with this virtual instrument.
