With the development of network technologies, the scale and complexity of networks has increased greatly, In order to guarantee the execution efficiency and performance of networks, network management has become very important. Distributed computing technologies have widely applied in network management fields nowadays, such as DCOM, CORBA, Java RMI, and Mobile Agent techniques that occurred in recent years. Network management technologies are developing towards distribution and Web.SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) defines a protocol specification for exchanging data in Web. It has high scalability, the ease of passing firewalls, and the ability to accomplish some tasks that cannot be done by some component models. Meanwhile, SOAP provides a simple mechanism to process information exchanging and remote procedure call (RPC) which is cross-platform, cross-standards and cross-management-domains in a loosed and distributed environment. The combination of SOAP and network management technology has an excellent application prospect. This paper first studies the latest network management and distributed communication technologies, then presents a novel network management architecture using the SOAP technique for large scale network environment, and finally describes the system framework of Integration Network Management System (INMS) based on this architecture and the Manager to Manager (M2M) interactive protocol among cohesive network management systems. The problem how network management servers and network element servers can transparently communicate remotely with each other is discussed. Using the simple mechanism of data encapsulation and RPC that SOAP provided, we have built a distributed network management prototype system base on SOAP.Utilized several new techniques, the result of this study provides theoretical and practical supports for synthetical network management system under large-scale network environment.
