Xml-based Network Management System Design And Application

Along with the development of the network's scale, its complexity and heterogeneity increase, the factors of affecting the network service rise, the complexity of the network management increases, so the network management is becoming significant increasingly. XML (extensible Markup Language) -based network management system applies XML technologies to network management, has been obtained research extensively and proposed as a new way for existing network management systems recently.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic concepts of network management and analyzes the existing network management technologies, then designs a network management system based on XML. The XML-based network management system adopts hierarchical network management architecture: there are many distributing managers controlled by a super manager called manager of managers (MOM) . The MOM communicates with distributing managers using XML. The distributing managers manage network equipment using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) . Using this network management architecture, we can manage the large and heterogeneous networks more efficiently.Finally this paper designs and implements an auto-generating tool as part application of the system, using the thinking of XML/SNMP gateway in the XML-based network management system. When the network management system manages new edition SNMP equipment, we can use the tool to generate corresponding configuration files and the database definition files, which increases the efficiency, decreases the manpower and the risk of making mistakes.
