The Restriction Of Space To Grammar From Angel Of Characteristics Of News Titles On Newspapers

Through a exhaustive statistics of the titles from 44 newspapers , a corpus including 9607 news titles has been set up in this thesis.Through the classification, filtration, statistics of the use of the words, sentence pattern and the punctuation on all the 9607 titles, and the comparison with the periodicals and passages which is not the title, the distinctive language characteristics, which are different from other kinds of titles and text, of news titles in morphology, syntax and punctuation mark are summarized. All the characteristics are the result of many factors affected each other, among which space is one of the most important restrictive factors for the form of titles language characteristics.1. The Space restricts the choices of words in news titles. The limit of space requests that news titles choose the words which are more reportedly, readable, succinct and have more concrete meaning. The unique position of space makes new words rightful.2. Space restricts the formation of sentence structure in news titles. The limit of space requests that the form of sentence structure in news titles must be the succinct to express enough information. The specific characteristic of two-dimensional space needs typical form and mark in the sentence structure in news titles to get attraction.3. Space influences the use of punctuation mark in news titles. Space replaces the function of some punctuation marks in news titles, and also expands or changes the function of some punctuation marks in news titles, making it have the function of decoration and graphics.Under the effect of space, in dealing with the contradiction in report function and name function, in the limit of space and the limitlessness of information, in normalization of syntax and creativity and variation to emphasize the focus, news titles definitely have their unique characteristics in morphology, syntax and punctuation mark,which help the titles use the most effective form to abstract readers and to report the information readers need.Restriction of space to news titles enlightens us to probe into the effect of space to the grammar of Chinese language, and then to help us comprehensively understand and grasp the norm of Chinese language grammar.
