In this paper, the design of a reconfigurable programmable digital and analog development system is introduced. In the system, as the control circuit, a FPGA is used to realize the dynamic reconstruction of the system by its feature of in-circuit-reconfiguration. The development system contains three main parts: microcomputer, programmable logic device and programmable analog circuit, and many periphery parts, such as RAM, A/D and D/A conversion modules, input modules of keyboard and buttons, and display modules of LED matrix and LCD, etc. Using the rich I/O resource of the controlling FPGA, each part in the system can be freely connected to any other parts to construct many development modes by downloading different configuration file into the controlling FPGA. Therefore, the system can be used in various fields and has good flexibility. The controlling FPGA is configured by a microcomputer AT89C2051. The configuration files of the controlling FPGA are stored in a serial EEPROM. The configuration files are compressed before storing in the EEPROM in order to store as more files as possible in the EEPROM. During configuration process, the microcomputer first uncompressed one of the configuration files in the EEPROM, and then configures the controlling FPGA.
