Evolvable hardware (EHW) refers to hardware that can change its architecture and behavior dynamically and autonomously by interacting with its environment. The prime motivation of EHW is to simulate the nature of evolution on a reconfigurable hardware platform. With self-adaptive, self-organizing and self-repairing feature, EHW has wide application prospects in aeronautics and astronautics field, industrial automation, intelligent sensor, robot control and so on. Analog EHW is a significant research field in EHW.The research on technology of evolution-oriented programmable analog circuit belongs to analog EHW research. The research target is to design a more effective programmable analog circuit which is suitable to evolutionary design. In this paper the basic principle and method of analog EHW is firstly introduced. The main content of research includes two aspects as follow:(1) Research of analog EHW fault-tolerance technology. Based on the simplified FPTA2, which is an evolution-oriented reconfigurable architecture and can implement evolution of both analog and digital functions, adopting adaptive genetic algorithm of single-chromosome, we established evolutionary reconfiguration mechanism. By implementing a typical amplifier circuit, we illustrate the fault-tolerance of FPTA.(2) Research of FPAA based on operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs). Using OTAs and capacitances to build configurable analog blocks (CABs) can exert the advantage of current-mode and operational transconductance technology. Firstly, the whole configuration and characteristic are introduced, meanwhile the CAB and programmable interconnection network (PIN) are designed, then taking amplifier and filter circuits as examples to prove the design of FPAA is reasonable and can be used in analog EHW.
