Now. the amount of data from scientific computing becomes larger and larger in Web environment. In the face of requirements of distributed storage and collaboration for the large scientific applications, scientists need to analyze the remote data sets directly and correctly. So it leads to comprehensive study of visualization in Web environment. The complexity of biological data leads to the study of biological information by visualization method, while the visualization architecture for biocomputing area has almost not been discussed. So it is necessary to design a Web-based three-dimensional (3D) visualization system for biological data from different places.First, we studied the system architecture. The visualization architecture for biocomputing was designed by analyzing the actuality, goal, and the system requirements of web visualization system. We discussed a Java3D-based system scheme and studied three aspects: data structure and storage format, data computing and transfer, integration of 3D technology and web application. We implemented 3D visualization for two different data resources, which is the basis for visualizing more complicated data sets produced by biocomputing.Second, we abstracted the 3D describing method of DNA and protein molecule and implemented 3D modeling in computers. Moreover, we studied how to transfer raw biocomputing data and visualization tools from remote places in Web environment. The scheme of Web-based 3D visualization system for molecular structures is designed and the molecular structures visualization model in Web environment is realized. This model has friendly interaction with client and database. Only having a mainstream PC, one can utilize the visualization modules from the server.Third, we proposed a new conception of "DNA virtual test tube", which is a model of virtual biocomputing simulator. By visualization method in computers, one can use it to simulate many biological operations such as melting, hybridization, PCR, ligation. cut. electrophoresis, probe. We also developed a program framework of DNA virtual test tubein Web environment. Moreover, we realized modules of ligation, PCR. electrophoresis, and probe reactions. Particularly, we introduced the design and implement process of PCR module by Java3D in details. Then, we illustrated the visualization process to simulate DNA computing with virtual test tube, using the instance of Adleman's Hamiltonian Path experiment.Finally, considering the specialty of the next generation network, we designed a Grid-based visualization architecture. Also, we prospected the using process of the molecular structure visualization model and DNA visual test tube model as Grid services.The achievements in the thesis will be the basis for consummate the DNA virtual tesl tube in Web visualization architecture.
