Along with the continuous development of enterprise informationization, Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) has not only extended its scope from single department to enterprise wide, and even wider virtual-enterprises, but also increased in its depth, that is, the focus of integration has been expanding from application systems to business processes.Business Process Integration (BPI) is a technology that has been evolving dramatically and gaining more and more acceptance in the real-world application. BPI not only enables enterprises to achieve business process automation quickly and cheaply and thus gain elevation in efficiency, but also provides support for Business Process Continuous Improvement.First, the basic concepts and BPI technology framework is introduced, then analyses, on the standpoint of enterprises, the different levels of BPI requirements, and studies the implementation of BPI in three scenes, namely internal business process integration, external business process integration, and standardized business process integration. This paper also focuses on the design and implementation of a business process management prototype system, Zealot, which is based on J2EE. The core implementation technology of Zealot is discussed, and the algorithm of some key mechanisms, such as the interpretation of process model, resource assignment, management of work items, and multi-instances workflow pattern etc. are presented. Some design trade-offs are discussed in this paper too. Finally, a typical e-business process, DreamBike on-line ordering process, is implemented based on Zealot and the result proves that the key mechanisms and implementation algorithms are valid and effective.
