The WebGPS vehicle monitoring system designed in this thesis contains mainly three parts: the Control Center, the mobile unit installed in each vehicle and GSM communication network. It is a large-scale and public monitoring platform for GPS vehicle dynamic information based on Internet, which combines advanced GPS , GIS , GSM and Internet technologies. The Internet-based Monitoring Platform for GPS Vehicle Dynamic Information provides an integrated solution for vehicle orientation, on-way goods follow-up service, real-time dispatching and information query.As a real-time vehicle positioning and monitoring system, the WebGPS system must resolve the collection of positioning data and the real-time transmission of these data firstly. Many location techonologies designed to improve vehicle positioning precision and reliability are discussed and the design project of intergrated GPS/DR navigation technology is chosen. According to the requirement for real-time vehicle tracing, the establishing of communication link-path and the delivering of data information become the major problem in actual application. The vehicle monitoring system adopts the technique of message communication in GSM network to realize remote data delivering, which not only resolves this problem well, but also has very low cast in communication. GSM network is already established everywhere. The expense of using short message service is lower and it is suitable to transmit positioning data to the Control Center repeatly in a short slot. The "Point to Center" solution is adopted between the Control Centerand the Short Message Service Center to reduce transmission delay and increase capacity of monitoring targets greatly, which is very important in WebGPS system and has good application meaning.The Control Center, asthe kernel part of the whole WebGPS system, employs the realization mode of "Internet+database+vector map" . Vector map, which is produced through scanning origin Chengdu map, digitizing and labeling using Maplnfo, provides basic data for implementing map applicaion development. MapXtremeJava, a new advanced map application server is used to match display of GPS positioning points transmitted by GSM network and realize vehicle realtime dispatch and information query under B/S mode. Wherever a car locates, user can supervise it conveniently and quickly via Internet.To make full use of the advantages of B/S and C/S mode, my solution to realize the design of the Control Center is combination of B/S structure and C/S structure. B/S mode is used for browsing and enquiry through browsers and C/S mode is mainly used for data maintenance. This system is incomparably easy to be operated. Users can enter the system interface simply by opening IE and input an IP.The combination of these two modes further expands the application scope, satisfies the demands of various clients, enhances the system function and operation efficiency and realizes the open information searching. It also embodies the consistency with the tread of the current information system. In the server-side, the software design of the Control Center adopts complete JAVA solution. The characteristics and advantages of using JAVA technology to develop WebGIS and database application system are described in detail. The concrete JAVA realizaion techonologies, including Java Servlet and JDBC, are analyzed deeply. With the JSP , Servlet and connection pool technique, access to dynamic data and development of dynamic data based on GPS system can be implemented.As the system is characteristic of vast number of users and large data bulk, the operation of establishing database connections has become one of the operations which have the maximal cost .To eliminate the bottleneck problem brought forth by frequent connection to the database and optimize the system performance, anJDBC-based database connecition pool management strategy is developed to optimize the concurrent connection problem.
