With the continuing development of broad-band access technology, the solution of "last mile" bottleneck has become imperative. EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) technique is just the best broad-band access project to solve the bottleneck. It transfers Ethernet frame based on IP through passive optical network, which can totally meet the bandwidth requirement of the terminal users. And it can also realize the seamless connection to the present LAN and WAN based on Ethernet technology.As concerned in this article, VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) is one of the necessary applications in EPON access network. In the case of EPON access network, VLAN can provide the approach to partition the terminal users, reduce the unnecessary load on network and improve the performance and the efficiency of the whole system. Based on practical exploitation and research of EPON system, this article depicts the overall structure and the specific realization of software in it. And the article is concentrated on the specific implement of VLAN. The detail shows below:Introduces the structure and strongpoint of EPON system. After analyzing the characters and applications of embedded system, educes the whole structure of EPON software, discusses the realization of each module and their dependence relations.Raises concept of VLAN and depicts the several types of its applications. And then concentrates on the standard protocols relevant to VLAN.Analyses the realization of the function and user configuration of VLAN in detail and separately describes the user configuring part, kernel module and ASIC support of VLAN.Tests several VLAN applications, and get the correct results. Then analyses the results and raises some suggestions to improve its performance.
