Embedded image Acquisition and processing system has extensive applications in intelligent communications, electric power, computer visual capability, etc., due to its features of small volume and high stability. The realization of the real tine video compression through software on the DSP becomes a highlight in the standard applications of the digital video compression, and has more versatility and greater upgrading potentials compared with the special compression chips.The method to realize the offline video compression and video digital communication has been proposed, focused on the design of videO encoder by software and the peripheral hardware system using Tms320vc5402. The precise Acquisition of the video signals was first fulfilled through the SAA7111 video Acquisition chip (made by Philips Co.). The CPLD was applied in the design of the complex and high-speed logic control and timing, high-speed hardware circuit of Tms320vc5402 extended RAM and Flash and encoding circuit of the DSP address. The Acquisition digital video signals were stored in the Tms320vc5402 extended memory and processed according to the encoding standard of the video compression. HPI host interface of Tms320vc5402 was developed to transmit the processed image information by DSP to and save in a PC. Meanwhile, the RS-232serial port of Tms320vc5402 was developed for wireless transmission. The wireless transmitting and receiving module NRF401, which had the RS-232 serial port, was utilized to fulfill the software and hardware design of image data transmitting wirelessly.The online programming feature of CPLD and DSP was fully developed to lower the design cost, and the function could be extended to meet the needs of different applications. Meanwhile, all interfaces adopted the general standard, such as the general simulated video interface, PC serial ports, RS-232 ports, etc., such design, therefore, has the extensive and intensive application potentials.
