With the development of our national economy, the demands of electric power grow so fast that the number of substations increases constantly, the level of voltage rises and the range of power supply enlarges. The pear-to-pear communication which takes the traditional master-slave mode can't meet the needs of the substation's security and economy operation. The fieldbus has many advantages such as simple application, high reliability, agile establishment, better function and lower price, and so on. Since the fieldbus was introduced into our country, it has been quickly adopted by the automation fields of power devices and has been applied to build the communication network of substation automation system.LonWorks technology is a kind of new-style fieldbus control technology which has developed rapidly in recent years. It is widely applied in building, power, energy sources, etc. It integrates computer, networks and control, and adopts all of the seven layer protocol of ISO/OSI. In the meantime, it is provided with agile establishment and good opening. Now LON has become one of the most popular fieldbuses. In this thesis, a RTU testing device of substation automation is studied, which is based on the Lon Works technology. Hardware circuits and software are designed on the basis of the understanding of the whole system function. The device not only can measure the AC electric power parameters of substation, but can communicate with the real-time monitoring computer by Lon Works network, so it's convenient for control center to monitor the running states and the parameters of substation. In this device, the 80C196KC microprocessor is used as host processor and the Neuron chip is used as communication coprocessor. The 80C196KC communicates with Neuron chip by parallel interface mode. The 80C196KC software is programmed with MCS-96 series assemble language and the applications of MC143150 Neuron chip are programmed with Neuron C language.
