With the development of the modern society and computer techonologies, Virtual Reality (VR) is widely used. In many fields such as aerospace research, military affairs, entertainment, education, VR acts as an important role. While the modern applications are getting more and more complex, they have to deal with larger mass of data than ever. This is a rigorous test to VR. A VR system nowadays has to face with huge mass of data, in which a model is composed of tens of thousands of polygons or even more. Thus the whole virtual world is constructed with a good number of polygons together with a complex structure. So we need more powerful techonology to meet with these modern applications. From the beginning, it has been the hottest study focus in Computer Graphics about how to improve the rendering speed. Lots of algorithms were brought forward. They work on different stage of the rendering pipeline, with various advantages and disadvantages from each other. Here we bring forward a fast rendering method based on texture mapping. It combines the LOD and hardware texture technology so that a high rendering quality can be obtained from a low-detailed geometric model. Therefore, it can run at a good speed with guaranted image quality. It was proved that this is an effective and cut method.
