Due to the boosting of the Digital Media Technology, 3D Graphics Technology has fully developed. It is one of the most active fields in the computer science. 3D Graphics is wildly used in many aspects of society such as Network Game, Virtual Reality and Military Training.During the resent years, bump mapping is one of the hotspot in reasearching the 3D Graphics.It is used for rendering the details of geometric surface, which makes the geometric surface look bumpy and increases the fidelity of scene. To realize the illusion of bumpy of geometric surface, traditional bump mapping changes the normals of geometric surface instead of changing the geogetric attributes of body surface.First of all, the common color texture mapping, anti-aliasing technology and multitexture mapping which are the foundation of realizing bump mapping are introduced. Then, the typical emboss bump mapping is delivered, so is the Dot3 bump mapping that is the main techmology used in graphics card. They are discussed fully, which is based on the principle of them. And the pros and cons of them are discussed in detail.Parallex bump mapping is a new technology to archive the target that renders wrinkle surface of high quality with a relatively low cost. It uses a much smart way that offsets the surface's texture coordinates than the ordinary displacement bump mapping technology that offsets the surface's geometry vertex instead.We will propose a bulk of idea to improve this technology's performance and quality. These strategies include:It is offseted for some key area's geometry coordinate of the surface to improve the reality of the final result. An algorithm is built to implement the effect that the surface may shadow itself. This algorithm needs a height map and the camera's information. Light map is used to adjust the surface's brightness that avoids some noise effect due to the phong lighting mode. All these strategies are let to the effort to improve the render application's reality.
