With the development of science and technology, many departments, such as pharmacy, cement, mechanism, dope, chemical, metallurgy, are confronted with more and more technical problems tightly concerned with fine particle. Particle size measurement is involved with various fields in national economy. Of the problems, the particle size and its distribution are the most important ones. The laser particle sizer is an instrument that gets the particle size distribution by detecting the relative energy scattered by the particles on the optic-electronic detector according to the small-angel scattering theory, it includes the technology of optics, electronics and computer science, and plays an important role in the fields of particle size measurement. The former Laser Particle Sizer use ISA Card to capture data. But poor bandwidth and low transmission speed are two fatal disadvantages of ISA bus. Nowadays, ISA bus is being abandoned by more and more computer systems. So we must find a type of bus interface to replace the ISA bus so that it can accomplish the mission which is mentioned above. Having compared and analyzed carefully, we made a conclusion that PCI bus is the best scheme. It can not only complete the work very well but also improve the system performance.PCI card frame is based on the special chip S5933, which is an efficient PCI matchmaker. The advantages of PCI bus can realize real-time capturing, processing and displaying of data and provide a guarantee for the stability and reliability of Laser Particles Sizer measuring system.The main work includes:Designing the hardware system of Laser Particles Sizer based on PCI bus. Utilizing CPLD to implement ADD-ON logic and data transmission from ADD-ON bus to PCI bus by means of DMA. Programming the hardware driver of PCI Card, which is fit for WIN2000. Improving the LSA software package and completing the experiment of measuring the standard-particles board by using new measuring system of Laser particles sizer.
