With the population of wireless device and the maturity of wireless network technology, M-Learning becomes a new research area of E-learning. However there are many problems need to be resolved with the emergence of M_Learning such as whether the wireless network can provide enough bandwidth for learner to receive online video as the wired network does, how heterogeneous device can work collaboratively, and how to resolve the problem of real time voice communication under wireless network. This paper discusses some technical issues about M-learning, and put forward some solutions and implementations. M_Learning belongs to cross-discipline research of wireless network, ubiquitous computing, multimedia and collaborative work. At first, this paper introduces current technical situation in the area of M_Learning, including wireless LAN technology, the theory of CSCW (Computer Supported Collaborative Work), the characters of mobile CSCW, multicast and the application of multicast in M_Learning. secondly, some research and development work based on the above mentioned theory and technology are discussed, including the research, in which the simulation method was used, of layout and optimization of wireless network, the development of whiteboard between heterogeneous devices based on the collaborative model, awareness technology, and concurrent control theory of CSCW. Applications of the theories are discuss in detail in this paper.Multimedia is necessary to E-learning. The application of Multimedia in E-learning ranges from the video on demand to the audio and video real time communication. How to make the multimedia available in the precondition of guaranteed quality under the wireless network environment is also mentioned in this paper. This paper brings forward a wireless video on demand solution which can guarantee the quality of service. We also have implemented the point to point voice chat using JMF, which is based on Java and can be transplanted to other platform. At the end of this paper, we discuss the application of multicast on the media transferring.
