This project is about the design and implementation of the IFM (The Institute of Finance Management) Library Management Information System based on the infrastructure of N-Tier architecture Technology. IFM Library Management Information System (ILMIS) is a computerized application service that is distributed across various departments to soften the provision of better and quick retrieval, Current Awareness Services (CAS) and Selective Dissemination of information (SDI) through Local Area Network to the clients within the Institute. The IFM Library is catering for the selectively collect, organize and disseminate information stored in books, journals, papers, handouts, government publications and audio-visual items, on various subjects. Also guide the instruct readers on how to effectively search for information and the use of Library. It supports education, research, teaching, study and consultancy work within the Institute and outside members. The IFM Library has different sections to cater their services to users such as Circulation and reference Section (Lending), Special Reserve Collection Section, Periodical Section, Acquisition and processing Section, Information Management and Audio-Visual Section. In view of this, I came up with an idea to prepare this project to help the Institute transform and automate the Library functions. The project covers some parts of the main Library functions. It covers the area of Acquisition and Processing (Main catalogue), Circulation Department (member registration, lending or borrowing, searching...), records keeping and management of the IFM Library. The project will provide the information necessary to the library staff and all users as a whole in terms of daily acquisition of documents (books and journals), daily lending/borrowing, overdue date and penalty for overdue; search results to the books and journals available in the library, the report generation on daily and monthly basis and security for the information kept in the system. The design makes use of Crystal Report Seagate Package 4.6 to integrate with Visual Basic 6.0 enterprise Software and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for generating various reports and queries needed in the Library and information services for information analysis. Furthermore, the Crystal reports technique has been implemented in printing a borrowing report at the end of the day.Graphics User Interface (GUI) has been implemented as a user friendly for data capturing and data manipulation. The GUI technique is designed by using Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise Edition, which uses ActiveX Data Object (ADO) model to write and read the data in the Microsoft SQL Server 2000.For Security purposes, the design has login restrictions, when the system operator has logged in the Login Status changed to "1". Login using the same USERID (userName) and PASSWORD when the Login status is "1" is not accepted. The login status is changed to "0" when the system operator logs out from the system.
