A Study On The Third-Generation Digital Library--The Systematic Structure And Intellectual Property Issues In Its Construction

The article exerts the structural thought aiming at the construction of Digital Library, and plots out systematic structure into four hiberarchy,incluing Information Rescource layer,Matadata layer,In Line Mechanism layer and Service mechanism layer.Each layer is divided openly into different modules. During the couese of analyzing the systematic structure of Digital Library, it deeply investigates the problems of interllectual property which probably comes forth in each layerand each module,and puts forward some interllectual property countermeasures.The first chapter is the introduction, which is prologue in the paper. The following chapter introduces Metadata layer and mainly illuminates technology of registering and switching of Metadata. The third chapter researchs deeply the copyrights issues of Metadata layer and draws some conclusions, that metadata-base should be protected according to database, metadata switch is similar to literature information. The fourth chapter discusses the function and achieving of Line Mechanism layer and analyses OAI, DOI and Open Link Protocol and so on in detail. The fivth chapter analyses copyrights referring to different procotols in the Line Mechanism layer on the basis of laws and representative cases of copyrights in the native and abroad. The sixth chapter discusses a serial of Digital Library Services based on Service Layer, including Personalization Information Service, Distributed Reference Service, Information Analysis and Decision Support Service and knowledge Management Service. The seventh chapter analyses the risks of copyrights infringement when Digital Libraries provide services, and even offers effective solutions and suggestions. The last chapter is a conclusion, which makes a summary of the whole paper and points out orientation of research in the future.The innovation of the paper is represented three points, idea innovation, framework innovation and content innovation. The paper simplifies architecture of Digital Library, using module thinking to help developers easily constructing DigitalLibrary. The paper illuminates architecture, researches entirely related copyrights and offer creative viewpoints, including Metadata Layer, service Layer and protection principle of metadata-base.
