With the rapid development of wireless communication technologies, software wireless radio(SWR) has become a research hotspot. It's a new stage of wireless communication technologies and will become one of the key technologies in 3G and 4G. The network technology, which is still immature among the key technologies of S WR, is also becoming a research hotspot. The mobile wireless network is a network in which there are mobile nodes. There are currently two variations of mobile wireless networks. One is known as infrastructured networks. Typical application is cellular mobile communication systems. The other is commonly known as an ad-hoc network. It has no fixed infrastructures. Nodes of these networks function as routers and iosts at one time.Ad-hoc network is a kind of special peer-to-peer network. It possesses the characters of acentric, self-organized, fast deployable and mobile, which makes people pay more attention to the using of ad-hoc networks in the emergence areas such as battlefields and disaster rescues.Through describing the features of two basic ad-hoc network routing protocols, this paper analyzes the Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) in detail, including its basic concept and structure. It's a protocol combining the characters of proactive routing protocols and reactive routing protocols. At last we forecast its development trends with simulation.ZRP is a frame of routing protocols more than a certain kind of protocol through the research of ZRP. Up to now, although nobody can give the methods of how to specify the radius of the zone in ZRP, we still look on ZRP as the protocol having a good future.
