As the development of network technologies, Internet is integrating computer systems and communication systems in the world, forming information superhighway and public data network. And as the increase of social productivity, human being owns a larger space to act as producer. How to monitor and control objects that are scattered in a wide range via Internet is one of the hot spots in automation field. Researches about applications of Internet in various remote monitoring and controlling system have been made much abroad. But research of online water quality monitoring based on Internet is a new application in environmental monitoring field. Water quality monitoring is characterized by extensive district, disperse monitoring stations and inconvenience of data acquisition and management. Issues that water quality auto monitoring technologies aim at are to realize remote data acquisition, and then automate the whole process of data transfer and process. In general, water quality monitoring technologies in China are still in a low level in automation and information, and it is hard for different utilities to share information. A top priority task is to raise automation level of water quality monitoring work, and seek an open, cheap network to share data among different utilities, which also represent a technical trend.From the point of overall structure and remote data acquisition technology based on Internet, monitoring scheme is demonstrated, designed and the software model is discussed. At first, basic theories about Internet-based remote monitoring system is presented, which include TCP/IP model, IP protocol and TCP protocol. Then, three distributed computation models is analyzed and compared, including Client/Server, three-tired Client/Server, and Browser/Server. Data acquisition technologies of Internet-based monitoring system are classified and data acquisition experiment based on DDE and OPC is carried with Rockwell Software's product (RSLINX). Upon the background of the Yangtze Gorges reservoir, remote data acquisition scheme based on ActiveX and OPC is presented. Considering spatial distribution of water quality data, GIS is introduced in Chapter 3 and it's structure, history, data organization and development is discussed. Then a spatial support decision system model based on GIS is designed and analyzed. At last, according to the requirement of water quality monitoring, data acquisition scheme is designed, and emulation model is designed and built.Internet-based water quality online monitoring can reduce data communication cost and share data more easily, and GIS can present a data presentation and analysis platform for water quality data and spatial data, giving support to decision. I hope my research work could promote the water quality monitoring in the Yangtze Gorges reservoir.
