Research Of Integrated Platform Management System And Implementation Of Embedded Can/Ethernet Gateway

This paper is originated from "Integrated Platform Management System" (IPMS) carried on by Shanghai Ship & Shipping Research Institute and supported by special fund for research institutes of the Ministry of Science and Technology. This paper mainly researches and develops on the technology of information integration between CAN (Controller Area Network) Bus and Ethernet in ship, and an embedded CAN/Ethernet gateway is designed to realize data sharing between CAN Bus and Ethernet in ship.Although some advanced ships in domestic have computerized networks for the whole ship, and gained some advantage, data gathered from automation equipments even in these ships is not integrated. For making best use of this information, this paper studies IPMS. IPMS is able to make data sharing between field bus control network and management information network in ship, and supplies multifunctional operation platform.First, this paper discusses the necessity, meaning, and core thought of IPMS. Data integration in ship is also studied.Second, this paper studies application of CAN Bus and Ethernet in ship, and structure of ship network. A ship network based on the combination of CAN Bus and Ethernet is designed. Further more, a method to connect CAN Bus with Ethernet is studied, and an embedded CAN/ Ethernet gateway is put forward to realized data exchange between CAN Bus and Ethernet.Third, this paper introduces VxWorks, Berkeley DB, Socket, and database access techniques in VC++, moreover, these technologies are applied to the design and Implementation of an embedded CAN/Ethernet gateway.Finally, the design and implementation of an embedded CAN/Ethemet gateway is stated in detail, and the implementation of monitoring function for multifunctional operation platform is also stated.Through the research in this paper, an embedded CAN/Ethernet gateway is designed to realize the function of network communication, data exchange, andinformation integration between CAN Bus and Ethernet in ship, which is a key problem to connect CAN Bus and Ethernet in IPMS. This technology possesses certain reference values to IPMS, which has a bright future and potential market.
