Fault analysis or setting of relay protection is a work often done by protection calculation people, which is miscellaneous and easy make a mistake. Today, computer is used widely, those work is completed necessarily and possible using the new computer technology. In recent years, some single fault analysis software and protection setting program is made. But these software is independent and can't link up automatically which the primal data such as short current for protection setting is get from short current calculation and then input into protection setting program by hand. Which lead to a whole work is done in a few sections and the change ratio can't adjust freely. Aiming at the limitation of the present software and combining the practice of engineering, the realization of the graphic and integrative program of fault analysis and setting of relay protection is amply described and studied in this article. The principle, mathematics model and software's realization of short circuit current and branch factors calculation, also, the principle and module frame is expatiated in detail. In the same time, the principle and realization method of graphic function for the software is analyzed too. Using advanced visual programming and OOP, we design and realize an integrative system that integrates the short circuit calculation and protection setting into a whole. This system takes database as its core and links each function module into an organic and integrated whole. The overall software design and the function of each module is introduced. The calculation of branch factors is the base and difficult of directional relays setting. The calculation of branch factors is predigested for engineering based on his calculation principle, which really meets to the engineering calculation. The selection of branch factors for directional relays is analyzed too. The realization and character of graphics which is realized through the second exploitation of AutoCAD. Finally, an example calculating the Chenzhou area power system protection setting shows the validity and the right of the system modern and program The fault analysis protection setting and document management integrative system can evidently improve the efficient of the technology management and reduce the labor of protection setting people, which is a developing direction of power system analysis and protection.
