, Periodical (magazine) plays an important role in the .communication system, and the developmental condition of periodical industry is an indication of the level of national civilization, economy, science and technology. In the new millennium, China's periodical publishing industry is adapting to market economy, and is approaching towards the goals of industrialization and convergence. There are gaps between China's periodical industry and foreign countries', and the most distinct gap lies in the strength and management condition of different countries' periodical industries, which affect the periodical production. After China's entry into WTO, some international groups is managing to enter into some fields of China's periodical industry, such as the periodical distribution, advertisement, and so on. China's periodical publishing industry should not only improve the core competitive power lying on management of brand-mark, distribution and advertisement, but also absorb effective experiences of developed countries such as cross-media development and conglomeration development. Some administrative measures applied in periodical publishing industry of developed countries are worthy of being learned by China's periodical industry. The dissertation is composed of five parts.In the introduction of the dissertation, the author expounds the background, significance, current condition, content and methods of a comparative study on periodical publishing industries of China and foreign countries.Chapter 1: A Comparative Analysis on Dimensions and Strength of Chinese and Foreign Countries' Periodical Publishing Industries. This part includes comparison on dimensions, strength, concentration rate of industry of Chinese and foreign countries' periodical publishing industries.Chapter 2: A Comparative Analysis on Periodical Consumer Markets of Chinese and Foreign Countries. This part includes comparison on need of periodical market, periodical consuming condition of Chinese and foreign countries.Chapter 3: A Comparative Analysis on Management of Chinese and Foreign Countries' Periodical Publishing Industries. This part includes comparison on management of brand-mark, distribution and advertisement of Chinese and foreign countries' periodical publishing industries.Chapter 4: A Comparative Analysis on Macroscopical Administration of Chinese and Foreign Countries' Periodical Publishing Industries. This part includes comparison on legal administration, economic administration and guild administration of Chinese and foreign countries' periodical publishing industries.Chapter 5: A Comparative Analysis on Developmental Trends of Chinese and Foreign Countries' Periodical Publishing Industries. This part includes comparison on cross-media development and conglomeration development of Chinese and foreign countries' periodical publishing industries.
