The technique of contactless IC card is newly developed in the world. It is a great breakthrough in electronic device field by combining radio frequency technique and IC card technique. The contacless IC card communicates with its read/write device by electromagnetic wave.In this paper, firstly the basis of contactless IC card is introduced, which includes the figure of contactless IC card system, its working principle and pivotal technique.Secondly, the technique of memory and control is introduced, which can be used both in IC card design and contactless IC card design. The introduction included the sorts of memory in IC card and the characteristic of each sort, the logic structure and operating clock sequence of several most commonly used IC cards such as memory card, nonreloadable counter card and smart card with security logic.Compared with IC card, contactless IC card has several more problems as it has to be passive, contactless and anti-collision. In the international standards of contactless IC card, the scheme of how to solve these problems has been defined. As the most commonly used contactless IC card is PICC (Proximity IC Card), the auther mainly introduces the international standards of PICC, especially the RF interface and anti-collision protocol of Type A standards and Type B standards.Nowadays, most anti-collision system of Type A contactless IC card is designed in hardware, while of Type B card is designed in software. All designs are patented. Therefore, the author design an anti-collision system of Type A card with VHDL, which is tested with RTL simulating. Meanwhile, the program of an anti-collision system of Type B card is designed with the use of an algorithm of slot and the sloted ALOHA protocol of Type B card.
