With the rapid development of the Internet and the continuous improvement of various communication equipments , more and more sensitive information is transmitted by the Internet. As a main way for the information transmission via the Internet, the Email has been widely used for its convenience and rapidity. How to effectively protect the important data send by the Email and improve the security of the Email has became a gradually urgent task.According to the standard protocols of S/MIME, the Email security subsystem is constructed based on the opening source software . This subsystem is implemented by integrating the secure authentication technology into the Email with the JAVA cryptography software development kit. This subsystem is helpful for improvement of the security of the Email via the Web.First of all, this paper presents the related background and the contents of this research. Secondly, this paper introduces the basic theory of the Email System and the related protocols. It also analyses the cryptology and the secure authentication technology. Thirdly, the design and the implementation of the Email security subsystem are discussed. Finally, this paper summarizes my main work and the future work.The meaning of this subject is to implement an Email security subsystem for the Email transmission via the Web. This subsystem provides the functions for the Email , such as encryption , decryption , digital signature and authentilcation. These functions provides the security services for the Email users, such as confidentiality, integrity and identification.
