With the development of technology in hardware and software, computer is widely used in the fields of industrial design, machinery manufacture, etc. CAD (Computer-Aided Design) emerges to meet the higher requirements of industrial design, drawing, and document processing system, especially AutoCAD has become one of the most popular designing software in the CAD family.When we are designing the products by using AutoCAD, there used to be a lot of DWG files where only one certain necessary file is needed. In addition, for a new series of products inherit 80% functions of the old ones, the regular work is to check the old designing papers, and our designers usually go through the files based on the names of the files. As they would gradually forget the file names for finding the important files, they have to open and search every DWG file, which appears to be not efficient. They might remember some detail information about the contents on the title bar or the name of the designers. It would be more efficient when applying the method of fuzzy query with a little information about the files.As DWG file is one sort of AutoCAD file with binary format, data process could not be directly permitted although AutoDesk has provided some second developing tools which must be used in AutoCAD.OpenDWG Toolkit is announced by OpenDWG Alliance to meet the library of inner DWG data. ODT is a static link-lib, which provides varies of libraries to operate the DWG files. Thus, the designers could concentrate on high-level developing of the software by leaving the process of the DWG files to the library transferring of ODT.The thesis consists of the following main parts:Comparison of the second developing tools, pointing out the reason why they are not available for extracting the management information from the title bar of a DWG file.Analyzing the graphic entity of AutoCAD files and their structures, and explaining their data type and the function of reading and writing DWG files.Introducing the current research of extracting the management information from the title bar of a DWG file, and also bring forward a smart retriever methodbased on ODT.Studing the structure of ODT database and organization structure of graphic data.Designing and realizing the process of extracting the management information from the title bar of a DWG file.The method proposed in this paper has been applied in a project of a Design Institution, named "Management of common data in graphic information files and graphic sample folder". Experimental results show better processing qualities. Even though they have made some progress in utilizing CAD instead of manual drawing, there still exists the huge problem of managing the DWG files from AutoCAD. The function we put forward is to automatically extract the information of title bar, and save to the database. It is not only a success of saving the manual work, but also a progress in enhancing the accuracy.
