One of the research and developing hotspots on oil monitoring is study on the online oil monitoring sensor, because it is useful for us to monitor the equipment, which operates hour after hour, the equipment require good security and important equipment real time. When light pass through the oil, it will be scattered by the particles in the oil. With the aim of online oil monitoring, this project is to study on oil contamination online by oil monitoring sensor. This sensor has a wide foreground on real time monitoring of the machine. Because of intrinsic advantages of optical fiber sensor, the optical fiber oil online monitoring sensor based on intensity modulating of light is a new direction in oil monitoring. By means of comprehension and analysis of former research achievements, the present paper presents a new oil monitoring structure with double optical routes and demonstrates the feasibility of this structure. With analyzed the relation between the particles number in the oil and the contamination of the oil, the relation between oil contamination and the weakening of transmitted light intensity, the oil contamination is monitored based on the particles scattered the light. The minimum peak value of the oil at low-loss transmission area of quartz optical fiber can be selected to monitor the oil contamination. Meanwhile, transmitted light intensity of measure route and reference route are detected simultaneously. Thus the negative effect of illuminant vibration can be eliminated by their ratios. In the circuit design for weak signal detection, the preamplifier is employed to magnify the signal fromPIN. And filter circuit is employed to cut down low-frequency signals then theoil contamination can be gotten with second amplifier.During the development of this project, the author has been mainly engaged inthe task of theoretic research, scheme design and feasibility analysis for oilcontamination monitoring.We put forward a scheme that the oil contamination sensor with reference routeis applied in this system according to the measuring difficult on incidence light and the influences from oil color and transparency of the oil contamination sensor with single route. The author expatiates on the design of the oil contamination sensor with double routes, and experiments correlative are carried through. The measuring result shows that the oil contamination sensor can measure oil contamination online. It plays a solid foundation and provided a valuable reference for the research of high-performance optical fiber oil contamination sensor in the future.
