The fast-speed development of computer network technology and information technology leads to the ceaseless change of manufacturing, CAD/CAM based Internet -a new technology, was arisen at the historic moment. In the future one important development of manufacturing industry is to make full use of network technology, especially the Internet/Intranet, to combine information internal and external on information integration technology, computer communication technology with direct numerical control (DNC) interface technology to make a integrated CAD/CAM system based on Internet, to achieve the goal of the global manufacturing, that is to say, the manufacturing resources can be shared in most platforms of computers and most areas in the world.Based on the deeply research of the architecture, function assignment and software development of CAM system under Web environment, this paper develops a prototype system of WebCAM. This system makes use of Winsock develop, in which UG is the key software of CAM, Web databases are accessed by ASP technology, the communication interfaces of the machine tools are the serial port interfaces. In this system, the full manufacturing process is realized from the skim of drawings, the finish of the NC programmer to the timely transmission of the NC programmers. This system of WebCAM is designed with Microsoft Visual C++6.0, it has many advantages such as: easily using and transmitting, friendly interface, etc. So it can be used as a tool not only in manufacturing factory, but in teaching and training. It will have a good prospect of application and high utility value.
