Along with people having increasing demand for wireless communication, the market: of mobile telecommunications had great potential. For the sake of making user randomly communicate between GSM900 and DCS1800 networks with a single handset, this thesis devoted to design and realize a RF(radio frequency) subsystem for GSM900/DCS1800 dual band handset according to GSM 05.05 protocol provided by ETSI, which the structure of single board can realize GSM900/DCS1800 dual band of the handset. Furthermore, it had the ability of implementation automation switch without breaking at any time. This system adopted highly integrated HD155131 transceiver of HITACHI Corporation as the main chip of the RF subsystem. The design of the subsystem used GSM900/DCS1800 dual band solution scheme of HD155131 transceiver, it included OFFSET PLL in transmitter part. and typical Super heterodyne Structure in rereiver part. This scheme benefited to reduce frequency error and phase error, and had the advantages of good dynamic range and selectivity, short exploitation cycle and small venture in the given performance demand, etc. This system implemented a six-layer hoard RF handset model together with baseband by using advanced EDA tool Veribest 2000. Then, under the software control, it can achieve successfully the normal communication with the base station and public network after debug, calibration and test phases, also can work stably and meet protocol demand. This thesis studied modern mobile telecommunications development at the same time, which analyzed GSM key technologies, as well as presented GPRS technology and the third generation mobile telecommunications general situations.
