With the rapid development of science and technology, high-tech products integrate into people’s daily life, and wireless sensor network (WSN) is the one of them. The development of wireless communication technology, large scale integrated circuit, embedded systems and sensor technology provides the technical support to the research on WSN. The research on Wireless sensor network began in the late nineties. And there are broad prospects for WSN in environmental monitor, industrial control and other aspects.Aimed at building information collection, a static, tree structure, multi-cluster and multi-hop WSN is automatically organized via wireless connects by the information monitoring nodes deployed throughout the building. In the SINK node, GPRS module is embedded to achieve remote data transmission.Firstly, this paper introduces the background and meaning of the research and summarizes current situation of WSN in domestic and aboard. And then it describes the features and system architecture of WSN and analysis the difficulties and the key issues in its design.By learning the theory and application of WSN, a multi-cluster and multi-hop WSN is designed for the data transfer in the building. And a custom wireless communication protocol is presented according to the requirements of WSN and the frequency used and characteristics of wireless nodes applying theoretical knowledge of WSN. The protocol uses the idea of time-division multiplexing and directed flooding, achieving automatic networking, network management and time-sharing to transfer data. To avoid communicant conflict the idea of time-division multiplexing applied in the formation of clusters, each node has its own time slot in the process of joining the network. In automatic networking, multi-cluster tree network is generated by the idea of directed flooding. The nodes designed in this paper are divided into two categories:ordinary node and sink node. Ordinary node composes of PIC microcontroller and CC1101 chip and is used to form the bottom layer of WSN; Sink node is based on 32-bit processor in the core of ARM Cortex-M3, CC1101 chip and GPRS module. The sink mode is able to manage the underlying network. and be connected to the internet by GPRS module. By the networking of wireless sensor networks, the data of WSN can be transferred to the remote monitor Center through the network.The research on WSN in this subject can be used for information collection and upload within the building, such as collect the temperature of each room or meter reading system.
