In this paper, we introduce the design and implement of a RealTime 3D-system base on personal computer in detail. After 4 year's hard working, we have made the development of DTS20000 tower simulator base on SGI working station a success. It has been tested by the tower controller of Guangzhou baiyun airport and captain airport and has been paid high praise. Without any question, compared with graphic work stations, real time 3D system based on PCs is developing rapidly because of its high price-performence ratio. Driven by the market, we choose to develop the PC-based visualgen on DTS2000.Tower simulator aims to simulate the real working environment of tower controller on airport, while the visual subsytem of tower simulator tries to realize the scene out of the window. When it is realized on the SGI working station, some functions such as the synchronization of the channels, keyboard event and mouse event, etc. ...are all handled by SGI itself. In this PC-based scenarial, the concept such as VisualgenServer and VisualgenClient has been creatively put forward. The former is used to simulate the function brought forward as before, the latter is used to realize the render of scene.In this paper we make the presentation in the following four parts:In the first part, we introduce the function model, mechanism and key technique in realization of PC-based visualgen of tower simulator.In the second part, we introduce the design and implement of VisualgenServer. It involves the communication between the VisualgenServer and system of towersimulator, the communication between the VisualgenServer and VisualgenClients. frame control and the synchronization of VisualgenClients.In the third part, we present the design and implement of VisualgenClient, which deals with how to realize the render of a scene using 3D graphics engine Performer.In the forth part, we present the method of how to create, organize and optimize the 3D model which is the heart and basis in virtual reality.
