With the development of network and multimedia technologies, Video-on-demand (VOD) has been paid more and more attention. After analyzing the main models of VOD system currently, the author provides readers new VOD system of Hierarchical storage based on proxy. The author also describes the architecture and their functions and the design and the implement of the software on the VOD.Incorporated with network communication, hierarchical storage and several replacement algorithms, the new system is more dependable and practical. This system provides a flexible structure, so the users can transform it according to the instance with favorable security. In the structure, the new system adopts logical proxy format, so the mostly data can be hierarchically managed. Through the user's request may been answered in time, consequently reducing the burden of the center-server. With the independent APFP (advanced periodic frequency prognosis) algorithm, the wobble quests can be solved.The whole system is simple, convenience and prone to maintain. In the application, the new system can run continually and stably. Different users can find their answer in the system. In the papers, the structure and the key technologies of system are useful for the relational system.
